IOur commitment

This site should be usable by everyone, however they browse. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. As a private portfolio the site is not covered by Malta’s public-sector accessibility rules; we follow the guidelines voluntarily.

IIWhat we have done

  • Text and background colours throughout the palette were chosen and checked to meet WCAG AA contrast ratios.
  • Pages use real headings, landmarks and lists, and a Skip to content link is the first thing a keyboard reaches.
  • Everything interactive, including the menu, the drawings on the desk, the archive and the image viewer, can be reached and used with a keyboard, and shows a visible focus outline.
  • If your system asks for reduced motion, the opening film, smooth scrolling, animated reveals, page curtains and custom cursor are all switched off.
  • The opening film has no sound, so it needs no captions; it can be skipped with any key, click, tap or scroll.
  • Archive images carry text alternatives naming the chapter and the plate.
  • Text can be enlarged to 200% without loss of content, and the layout adapts from small phones to large displays.

IIIKnown limitations

  • The desk. The opening scene is a visual way into the archive. Every chapter it leads to is also listed, in text, in the archive index and in the menu.
  • Drawings. Many plates are drawings whose meaning is visual; their text alternatives describe the subject rather than every detail. Hand lettering inside drawings is not available as text.
  • The cinematic archive is designed around images and motion. The archive index presents the same content in a simpler, fully accessible form.

We are working on these and welcome suggestions.
