Born in Malta,
trained in Milan.
Carlo Schembri is a Maltese artist and artistic director. Born in Malta in 1974, he trained at the Malta School of Arts, then spent four years at the Politecnico di Milano, where interior architecture became his discipline.
He went on to a Masters in Interior and Product Design at the Scuola Politecnica di Design in Milan, and graduated with distinction. Since then he has become known for giving every project its own atmosphere, with a clean design language that still answers to the place it is built in.
His commissions have taken him abroad, and range from a single chair to whole buildings. What he cares about most are the details that change how a room feels to be in.

Carlo’s ideas begin as his own drawings. From there, he partners with &bold, a multidisciplinary architecture, design and research studio that brings creative thinking, technical expertise and delivery under one roof.
On larger or more complex projects, Carlo leads the artistic direction, establishing the central idea. &bold then brings together architects, designers and specialists to research it, challenge it, prototype it and carry it into the built world.
It is a partnership between artistic instinct and architectural rigour, allowing a sketch to become a building without losing the hand that first drew it.
